A Very Short Opening Prayer for Virtual Meeting

Meeting is a form of gathering, and the outcome could be determined by the presence of God. You’ll agree that sometimes, they don’t go the way we plan them due to misunderstanding here and there, or failure to find a solution to something. A Virtual meeting makes it even more tricky due to physical absence. This is where a short prayer comes in, especially before opening the meeting.

If we organize a meeting in the name of God, we can expect the virtual environment to be positive. In the book of Matthew 18:20, Jesus says, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Today, even though you won’t be physically present in the same room, this meeting is still a gathering in spirit. The disciples came together in unity and prayer, so we can also come together in this virtual space, and with the presence of God, close it on a positive note. It doesn’t matter if it’s a family or business concern. Besides, in the book of Genesis 11:6, the story of the tower of Babel shows that people from different backgrounds and languages came together to make progress despite their differences.

Short Opening Prayer for Virtual Meeting

These will be short prayers that, even if you find this prayer guide 30 seconds to the meeting, you’ll still know what to do. Let’s pray.

1. Prayer to Meet Our Meet Goal

Dear Heavenly Father,

I choose to begin this virtual meeting in your name because only you can guide us through. Help every one of us to understand the purpose of this meeting. Proverbs 16:3 makes me feel positive because it says, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”

I hereby pray that our meeting goal should reflect your plan, and that we be guided by your wisdom as we consider the context of our project and what needs to be done to move forward. Let us be able to define the purpose and scope of the meeting and identify the key outcomes. Without you, we won’t easily prioritize our objectives. We need your wisdom to allocate sufficient time for discussion, just as the apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 5:15-16, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity.” We pray this in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

2. Wisdom to Use this Virtual Meeting Software

Dear God,

Perhaps it’d be a lot better if we gathered in person but you understand why we are having this meeting virtually. There are so many virtual tools out there, including  Zoom, Google Meet, etc., but we have picked this particular one to use. Now, I ask that this platform we have chosen allow us to have effective collaboration, screen sharing, and assigning the next steps. Our tech team has assessed the features and functionality and thought it was the best for this virtual meeting but you know better.

Dear God, may this meeting software support our meeting goals. It should be able to meet the needs of all participants and, most importantly, it should be a platform that honors your name, for it is written in 1 Corinthians 14:40, “But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.” May our choice glorify you.

We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

3. Prayer to Guide Our Meeting Agenda

Gracious Father,

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

Today, we have prepared our meeting agenda, and now, I ask for your direction. Our virtual meeting agenda should be able to keep everyone organized and on the same page.

My concern right now is that our agenda should be of your order and peace. I ask that we conduct our meeting with love, respect, and, of course, the fear of the Lord. Help us to use technology to our advantage, and create an agenda that is relevant to our meeting. I also pray that all participants understand our purpose ahead of time, and may our agenda be a tool for effective communication and collaboration. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

4. Prayer for Positive Collaboration

Heavenly Father,

We feel the urge to start this virtual meeting with a short opening prayer, and it is a sign that we adore and acknowledge your presence. Father, all we need is your heavenly guidance, divine wisdom, and direction. I don’t want to begin this meeting without you being a part of this collaboration. Help us all to collaborate effectively. Even the apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 2:2, “Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.” I hereby declare that our virtual meeting software facilitates our discussions and actions, and may this platform honor Your name.

I also needed help scheduling and looked into a meeting scheduling app so that every member would be here on time. Please, keep our people reminded, and make their attendance early. In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Amen.

5. Prayer for a Positive Environment

Dear God,

We are about to begin this virtual meeting. As such, here I am asking for your help for us to create a positive virtual environment where. I want every attendant to feel much more comfortable and valued in this meeting. You even taught us in Romans 12:10 to “love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.” So, I pray that our virtual meeting be a place where we build each other up. Let every one of us have a sense of community.

Help us to use virtual icebreakers to connect and build relationships, and may our meeting be a place where we can all feel heard and seen. May we level the playing field and give everyone a chance to contribute, and may we take away the tension and nervousness of pitching ideas to other people. In Jesus’ name, we pray.

Amen.

6. Prayer for Our Full Attention

Dear Heavenly Father,

This isn’t an in-person meeting, so it’s very likely that some of us might be distracted where we are. As we are about to start this meeting, I pray that you help each and every one of us give our full attention to the speaker and to the discussion. Help us to avoid distractions and stay focused throughout this meeting. May we use our reactions and emojis to engage with the speaker, and prioritize listening to understand each other’s perspectives.

This is a serious meeting that will impact our growth. Therefore, help us not to eat and check our phones during the meeting. Let us all have our cameras on to engage until the end. The chat we use should ask the right questions. May we not interrupt the speaker, and may we allow time for people’s questions and interactions. Guide our ears to be quick to listen and slow to speak. Even in James 1:19, it says “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak….” In Jesus’ name.

Amen.

7. Prayer for Heavenly Direction to Improve Engagement with Interactive Elements

My Father,

This is a short prayer about engagement during this virtual meeting. As we gather here, I come before you asking for wisdom to help us improve engagement. Help us to incorporate interactive elements that stimulate participation, and most importantly a sense of community among us. May our polls, Q&A sessions, break-out rooms, and virtual whiteboards be tools that bring us closer together and help us understand and reach our goals. The Bible encourages us in Ephesians 4:29, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” I hereby pray for our meeting to be a place of building each other up in a way that gives you glorification. May you answer our prayer, in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

8. Prayer for Clarifying Next Steps

Dear Heavenly Father,

When we conclude this virtual meeting, we ask that you help us clarify our next steps and responsibilities. Help us to easily use any resources within our means to assign tasks and be able to track progress. Let us all leave this meeting with an understanding of what we need to do and when it needs to be done. Our meeting should be a place of productivity. Let all that we plan be effective, and at the same time glorify you in all that we do. Help us, Lord, to avoid the gap of miscommunication. may all we do or say not hinder productivity.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

9. Prayer for Ability to Follow up after the Meeting

Oh, Father,

I am rendering this short opening prayer for our virtual meeting follow-up to be the best it can be. In the first place, we are grateful for this opportunity to connect with our team. As we will follow up after this meeting, please guide us to craft emails that are clear and concise, so that everyone can be on the same page. Our subject lines should be direct and actionable. Our communication should also be a blessing to each and every one of us. I pray that we follow up according to your Biblical teaching that “the hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent, and their lips promote instruction” (Proverbs 16:23). Please, put words of wisdom in our minds as we will hold this meeting.

Amen.

A virtual meeting is one without in-person handshakes, and so it’s a lot more susceptible to friends forgetting that they are friends during heated moments. Irrespective of what this meeting is about, business, family, or personal issues, the presence of God is what you need right now to close it on a positive note. In the end, we all want to be able to work things out together to achieve our goals. What would be a successful meeting without reaching a target goal? So, it’s smart that you are starting it with God’s name, and it’ll be rewarding, even before the finish line. may God be praised as you are every other attendant holding this meeting. Amen
