There is this story of a desperate father, whose son has been tormented by a demon that has left him mute and convulsive in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 9. The father brings his son to the disciples of Jesus. But despite their efforts, they are unable to cast out the demon. However, Jesus intervenes, and with a single rebuke, the demon is cast out and the boy is set free. Jesus rebuking the demon is Him exercising His authority over the spiritual realm. He was binding the power of the enemy and casting out the darkness.
Jesus was demonstrating the very same authority that He would later give to His followers, saying ‘I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you’ (Luke 10:19). This authority is not limited to Jesus alone. It is available to every believer only if you dare to take up the mantle of spiritual warfare.
Binding and Casting Out Prayer
It’s a lot better to pray at night, when it’s a lot quieter with less no disturbance whatsoever. Now, say this prayer:
1. Binding and Casting Out Prayer
Our Father,
I am not wrestling against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12). Therefore, I pray for You to intervene in my life. You did intervene for the demon-possessed boy in Mark 9. You saw the desperation of the father and the suffering of the child, and had compassion on them. Lord, do the same for me and for those I am praying for.
Bind the strongman that has taken hold of our lives, and cast out the demons that have been tormenting us. I break the chains of bondage that have held us captive for so long. Please, set us free from the powers of darkness. Undo the heavy burdens that have been weighing us down. Give us the freedom to live the life you have called us to.
My prayer is that you give me the wisdom to identify the enemy’s schemes and to resist them in my life. Give me a fresh anointing of your Holy Spirit, and the faith to believe that you can do abundantly above all that I pray.
In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
2. Binding and loosing prayer
Dear God,
I stand on the authority of your word in Matthew 18:18:
Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
On this ground, I bind the spirit of fear that has been trying to grip me. David faced the giant Goliath with faith in you, and I pray for you to give me the same courage to face my giants. I bind the spirit of confusion in my life. The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years because of their disobedience, but you still provided for them until they reached the Promised Land. Please, bind the spirit of confusion, and loose the spirit of clarity in its place.
I also remember the story of the woman with the issue of blood. All she did was touch the hem of your garment and was healed. Please, touch my body with your healing power.
Also, the widow of Zarephath gave her last meal to the prophet Elijah, and you multiplied her resources. Father, bind the spirit of poverty, and loose the spirit of abundance and provision in its place.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I declare that Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. I declare that your kingdom come, and your power be revealed in my life and in the lives of those around me.
Amen.
3. Binding prayer Catholic
Dear Lord Jesus,
You are the same God who parted the Red Sea for the Israelites, ll brought down the walls of Jericho, and raised Lazarus from the dead. You are the same God who healed the blind man, fed the five thousand with five loaves of bread, and calmed the stormy sea with just a word. I bind every evil spirit that seeks to destroy my faith, my family, and my community. Every spirit of fear, anxiety, and doubt that tries to creep into my heart and mind, Father, I bind them. Take away the spirit of addiction and greed trying to enslave me and those I love. I also bind every spirit of pride, of anger, and of resentment.
Ephesians 6:12 says:
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Please, send your holy angels to surround me and protect me. Also, give me the strength to resist temptation and to overcome every obstacle. Fill me with your holy spirit, and comfort me with your love, oh Lord.
Please, set me and my loved ones free from every snare, trap, and pit that the enemy has laid for us. Lord, I thank you for your mercy, your love, and your faithfulness. I thank you for your promise to be with us always, to the end of the age. I also thank you for your promise to never leave us or forsake us.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
4. Mind-binding spirits prayer
Our Heavenly Father,
As I come before you today, I’m aware of the struggles that weigh me down. The enemy has been whispering lies, sowing seeds of doubt and fear in my mind. But I know that you are my Deliverer, my Rock, and my Salvation.
Just as you delivered the Israelites from the bondage of Pharaoh, I ask that you deliver me from the bondage of these mind-binding spirits. Free me from the chains of anxiety, depression, and confusion. Give me clarity of thought and a sound mind, just as you promised in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
I remember the story of King David, who was tormented by the evil spirit sent by Satan. But you, oh Lord, were his refuge and his strength. You delivered him from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. I ask that you do the same for me.
As I pray, I bind every mind-binding spirit that seeks to control my thoughts, emotions, and actions. I command them to leave me now, in the name of Jesus Christ. I loose the Holy Spirit to fill me, to guide me, and to empower me to live a life that honors you.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
5. Binding prayer for the laity
Oh Lord,
Please, bind the strongman, Satan, and his cohorts, who seek to steal and destroy. Also, render their plans and schemes powerless in my life because you did the same with Haman in the book of Esther.
Also, in Luke 10:19, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” I claim this promise, and pray for your power to overcome the enemy’s attacks.
I bind the spirits of fear, anxiety, and depression that try to hold me captive. Loose the spirits of peace, joy, and hope, that we may be free to serve you with gladness. Please, protect your people from the snares of the enemy, and keep me from falling prey to their deceitful schemes.
I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. I bind the enemy and his works, and I loose the power of God to set us free. Amen.
6. I rebuke the devil in the name of Jesus prayer
Heavenly Father,
James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
I rebuke the enemy that tries to destroy, and stand on the authority of your Word.
I rebuke the spirit of fear that seeks to paralyze and intimidate.
I rebuke the spirit of anger that seeks to consume and destroy.
I rebuke the spirit of pride that seeks to exalt itself above you.
I rebuke the spirit of deception that seeks to lead astray and confuse.
Please God, intervene in the lives of those who are being oppressed by these evil spirits. Also, bring freedom to those who are bound by chains of addiction, depression, and anxiety. I pray for hope and restoration to those struggling to find their way.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I command these evil spirits to flee and to never return. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
7. Prayer to bind the strongman
Dear Heavenly Father,
Please, deliver me from the strongman in my life and the lives of those around me. You are the Almighty God, the Creator of the universe, and the One who has power over all principalities. In the story of Daniel thrown into the lions’ den, you sent an angel to shut the lions’ mouths, and Daniel was spared. I pray for you to do the same for me. Bind the strongman, Lord, and set me and my loved ones free from his grasp.
Please, hear our cry, and send your deliverance to set me free from the strongman’s bondage. You said, “The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (2 Timothy 4:18). And I claim this promise, and hope that you would rescue me and all those being attacked by the strongman.
You cast out the demons and healed the sick, raised the dead and gave sight to the blind. Dear God, cast out the strongman, and heal the wounds that he has inflicted upon us.
Bind the strongman, and take away his power to deceive and manipulate.
Take away his power to bring fear and anxiety.
Take away his power to steal and destroy.
I ask that you would replace his power with your power, love, and peace.
I pray for those who are struggling with anxiety and with fear. And also for those being oppressed by the strongman in their marriages, in their families, and in their workplaces. Please, set them free, and bring them into the freedom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
8. Binding the powers of darkness prayer
Dear God,
I acknowledge your authority over all things, and ask you to exercise that authority to bind the powers of darkness trying to destroy. You parted the Red Sea for your people to pass through safely. Please, part the waters of darkness that surround me, and allow me to pass through to the other side, unscathed.
You also sent fire from heaven to consume the sacrifices of Elijah! Father, send your holy fire to consume the strongholds of the enemy erected against me. Ephesians 6:12 says, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” This is a spiritual battle, and I ask You to give me the strength and the armor to stand against the enemy.
I bind the powers of darkness that seek to steal, kill, and destroy.
I bind the spirits of fear, anxiety, and depression that seek to weigh me down.
I bind the strongholds of addiction, pride, and rebellion that seek to hold me captive.
I bind the powers of darkness that try to divide.
Please, send your holy angels to surround and protect me. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, and empower me to live a life that is pleasing to you. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
9. Prayer to loose the bonds of Satan
Dear Heavenly Father,
Satan is trying to bind us with chains of darkness and fear, but I claim the promise of your Word that says “the Son has set us free, and we are free indeed” (John 8:36).
Please, loose the bonds of Satan that hold me captive. You did this for the demon-possessed man in the synagogue, and freed him from the grip of evil (Mark 1:23-26).
Dear God, break the strongholds of the enemy trying to keep me from living a life of freedom and a life filled with purpose. Deliver me from the snare of the fowler, just as you did for David when he cried out to you in Psalm 91:3. I also pray for you to protect me from the devil and keep me safe under your wings. I command every evil spirit to leave me and my loved ones, and I pray that your Holy Spirit fills us with your presence.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
10. Prayer to cast out unclean spirits
Our Father,
May your mighty power and authority be manifest in their lives. Please, cast out every unclean spirit that has taken residence in me. You cast out the spirit of fear that had taken hold of the disciples in the stormy sea. Therefore, I pray for you to calm the storms that rage within them and bring peace to their troubled minds.
You broke the chains that bound Paul and Silas in the Philippian jail (Acts 16:25-26). Oh Lord, shatter every stronghold of the enemy and set me free to live a life of liberty and joy in your presence. Also, send your holy angels to protect me from the attacks of the enemy, and to guide me into all truth (Hebrews 1:14). I pray that you would give me a spirit of wisdom and revelation.
Heal every wound, every hurt, and every scar that has been inflicted upon me and my family by the enemy. Restore our souls the same way you restored the soul of David when he was troubled and distressed in Psalm 23:3-4.
May this prayer be a mighty weapon against the forces of darkness. May your kingdom come and Your Will be done in our lives. Thank You, oh Lord, for listening to my binding and casting out prayer. In the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen!
