Before you ask God for help in buying a house, get inspired by the story of the Israelites in the book of Joshua. After hundreds of years of wandering in the desert, the people of God finally arrived at the Promised Land. They had to take control of the land and claim their property. But God had a plan, and prayer was the first step. In Joshua 1:2-3, God told Joshua:

Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

But they had to pray and ask God for help before they could take possession of the land. God’s promise wasn’t just a promise of success; it was also a call to believe and follow through. Joshua and the Israelites were able to get past what seemed like insurmountable problems, like the walls of Jericho and the fierce armies of Canaan, because they prayed and sought God’s will.

In the end, they got the land, just as God had said they would. Now, when we pray to buy a house, we’re not just asking for a building to live in. We are asking God to take us to the place He has planned for us by giving us wisdom and direction. We believe that His promise in Philippians 4:19 to meet all our needs according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus is not just a dream, but a real thing that will happen in our lives.

Prayer to Buy a House

Dear Father in Heaven,

I need you to show me the right house that meets my needs and doesn’t break the bank. Help me to be smart and careful while in search of homes for sale, and to be sure that the choice I make is the right one. I pray that you will help me understand how to buy a house and how to bargain well and make a good offer according to my pocket. I also pray that the sellers will like me and accept my deal.

Psalm 37:4 says, “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” I really enjoy being with you, Lord, and I know that you will give me what I want.

I will need a real estate agent I can trust, one who is informed, and willing to help me find the right home. I know you are my shepherd. I worship You as You will put me in touch with the right real estate agent. May they listen to my needs and work hard to find me the perfect house within my budget. Give me wisdom and discernment as I talk to possible agents and help me find the best one for me. I don’t want to be swayed by their charm or sales tricks. Instead, I want to trust them, and hope that You will use this person to help me find a good home.

Dear Father,

Please, show me the right house according to my needs that won’t break the bank. Help me to be smart as I look at homes for sale, and may I be sure that the choice I make is the right one. I pray that you will help me to plan as I get ready to make an offer on a house. Guide me to bargain well and make a reasonable offer. The sellers should like me and accept my deal. I believe in your power and your goodness, and I know that you have a plan to make me rich and give me a future.

May I have faith in You. Remind also that you are working everything out for my good and that I can rest in your peace. Help me, oh Lord, to stay strong throughout this whole process. Heavenly God,

As I get ready for the next steps in the homebuying process, I come to you in faith and ask that you show me the way. Please give me the money I need to pay for a good home inspection and assessment. Dear God,

When it’s time to move into my new home, please make the process easy. Remind me to stand in any of the empty rooms, and pray that you will come in and take control. I pray for this to house be filled with your love and peace, and may your Spirit lead and guide me. It should be a safe place where I can rest and find comfort in your company. I pray that you will help me make this new home a place of worship and praise as I get used to it.

My heart should be joyful and thankful, and may I praise you for all the good things you’ve done. Psalm 127:1 says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”

I know that you want a house for me and have planned every step of it. Please, be in charge and continue to lead and guide me as I buy a house and make it my own home. May this house be a place where I can serve you, and use it to honor Your name. Please make it a place where people feel welcome and where I can share your love with them. Father, thank you so much. I commit all I have into Your hands and pray that you will use it to honor yourself. I pray in the name of Jesus.
