Prayer for Child Going Back to School

It’s back to school session, and our children are preparing to head back to school. Now is the time to pray for them. Proverbs 22:6 says, ‘Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.’ We often entrust our kids to the care of their teachers and the educational system. But then, it’s much more important to also entrust them to the care of God.

This new academic year will be a time of growth, learning, and spiritual development for our children. Our prayer today will guide them through the challenges and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead after their education.

Prayer for Child Going Back to School

Please, bring your child closer and hold her precious hands while you say this prayer to call on God’s presence and to hand them into God’s hands.

1. Prayer for Child Going Back to School

Dear God,

I’m at the threshold of this new school year filled with a mix of emotions – excitement for the possibilities, anxiety about the unknown, and hope for the best. But amidst all these feelings, I remember your promise in Psalm 91:11, “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” Please, protect my child from harm as they travel to and from school, and throughout their day. Keep them safe from accidents, injuries, and illnesses. Watch over them as they walk, ride, or drive to school, and bring them back home to me safely every day.

I also pray for you to protect their mind from the negative influences that they may encounter. Keep them from bullying, teasing, and any form of harassment. Help them to be kind and compassionate towards their peers, and to be a good friend to those around them. They’ll face certain academic challenges in this new school year, but I pray that you will be their rock and refuge. Help them to know that you are always with them, and guiding them all the time.

Amen

2. Dear God, Grant My Child Wisdom in Their Studies

Please, grant my lovely child wisdom in their studies. Help them to understand and retain what they are taught, and to develop a love for learning that will last a lifetime. I want this child to have a curious and inquiring mind. In class, He should be trying to learn more about new ideas. Help them to be disciplined in their studies, and to manage their time wisely.

Some difficulties are expected in this academic journey. Therefore, I pray for you to give them perseverance and endurance. Help my child to be focused, even when the going gets tough.

And when they make mistakes or encounter setbacks, may they be able to learn from them and to move forward confidently.

Please, give him/her a heart of willingness to ask for help when they need it. Help them to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and be able to request guidance from their teachers or even knowledgeable peers.

I believe that your wisdom will guide this child, dear God. Walk them through while also holding their hands, and teach them to grow in knowledge and understanding. Amen.

3. May My Dear Child Be Filled with Confidence This New Session

My innocent child will be stepping into this new school year, and I pray that you fill them with confidence. Help this baby believe in themselves and their abilities, and know that they are capable of great things. In the story of David and Goliath, David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:37). May my child have the same faith and confidence in you, dear God, as they face their own giants this year.

Help them to focus on their strengths and not their weaknesses, and to know that they are not alone in their struggles. You are with them, guiding and empowering them every step of the way. They may meet new teachers, classmates, and academic challenges, but I pray that they will walk with confidence all through. Help them to speak up for themselves, to ask questions, and to find help when they need it.

I pray for your presence to be their confidence. May they know that they are loved and valued by you and that you have a good plan for them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

4. Prayer for God to Surround My Child with Good Friends

Heavenly Father,

Please, surround my kid with good friends, and help them find friends who will encourage, support, and inspire them to be their best selves. Keep friends of bad influence away from his life. Bring people into his life who will be a positive influence, who will help them to grow in their faith, and who will be a source of strength.

Just as iron sharpens iron, I pray that my child’s friends would sharpen them and help them to become the best version of themselves. Help them to build strong, healthy relationships that will last a lifetime.

Also, give my child the wisdom to pick their friends. He should also be able to tell the signs of a toxic friendship and to know when to set boundaries or distance themselves.

May my child’s friends be a representation of your love. May they be a source of joy, comfort, and strength to one another, and always remember that they are loved and valued by you, oh Lord. Amen.

5. Dear God, Guide My Child’s Teachers and Authorities

My child needs the guidance of the teachers and school authorities. Please, help them to create a safe and supportive learning environment. It should be an atmosphere where this child will be able to learn and grow.

Also, give their teachers (1) wisdom, (2) patience, and (3) kindness as they instruct and mentor my child. Help them to understand my child’s strengths and weaknesses, and to design their lessons to meet their individual needs.

It is written that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). And in Exodus 13:21, “He led them with a cloud by day and with a fiery light at night.” Just as you guided the Israelites through the wilderness, guide my child’s teachers and authorities through this new school year. May they be led by your wisdom, and always put the needs of their students first.

Help my child to respect and obey their teachers and authorities, even when they don’t understand or agree with them. Help them to identify the authority and responsibility that you have given to their teachers, and to submit to their guidance and instruction. May your presence be felt in every classroom, dear God, and may your wisdom guide every decision that is made. May my child’s teachers help them to grow into the person you have created them to be. Amen.

6. Prayer for Child to Be Healthy and Strong as They Return to School

Dear God,

Help my kid to resist the germs and illnesses that can spread so quickly in a school setting. Help this child to stay energized and focused on the lessons throughout the day. Protect them from school accidents and injuries, and keep them safe from harm. May they be careful when they play, and always prioritize safety and well-being.

As it says in 3 John 1:2:

Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

I pray for my child’s good health and well-being, both physically and emotionally as they return to school. Give them the self-care habits needed for them to stay healthy. Help them to eat nutritious foods, get enough sleep, and to exercise regularly. I pray for your healing presence to be with my child, and let them always know that you are their ultimate source of health. Amen.

7. Prayer for Perseverance and Endurance

Dear God,

This is my prayer for my child’s perseverance and endurance as they will be going back to school. Help them to be motivated, even when it gets tougher. Elijah prayed for rain and then had to wait for it to come (1 Kings 18:41-46). I pray that my child would have the same perseverance and faith as Elijah while you are working everything out for their good.

Help them to push through obstacles, and never give up on their dreams. May they be encouraged by their small wins, and also learn to celebrate their successes along the way. Please, give my child the power to overcome any obstacles. May they not see setbacks in their studies. May they also learn from their mistakes, and use them as opportunities for self-improvement.

May your presence be their source of perseverance. Let this child also know that they are not alone in their struggles and that you are always with them. Amen.

8. Prayer for Joy and Happiness

Our Father,

I love to see my children smile. And as they will be leaving for school after the holiday, help them to find delight in their studies. Guide them while they discover new passions and interests. Psalm 126:2-3 says:

Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.’

I pray for this kid to experience that same joy and laughter, and that they would be a source of joy to those around them.

Help my child develop a positive attitude. May he be able to focus on the good things, and be grateful for their blessings. Also, always help them to find the silver lining in every cloud.

I pray for strong relationships with their friends and classmates. I pray for them to build a support network that will bring them happiness. May they also be compassionate towards others, and always look for ways to make a positive impact. May your joy be their strength, dear God, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

9. May He Practice Good Time Management and Be Organized with His Studies

Finally, Our Lord,

May Heaven help this child practice good time management. Even without my intervention, may my child know how to be organized with their studies. Let them know when to prioritize their tasks, and to focus on the most important ones first. Please, give them a sense of discipline and responsibility, and that they would be motivated to stay on top of their schoolwork.

Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.” Hence, I pray for my child’s approach to their studies to be of this same attitude.

Let my child develop good habits and routines, such as setting aside dedicated time for homework and studying, and breaking down large tasks into smaller, manageable chunks. Even when things get busy and overwhelming, let him discover a working recipe that will help him stay organized.

I believe that your guidance will be their constant companion this school year. May they always honor you in their studies, and may they be a shining example of responsibility to other students. In Jesus’ name.

Amen!

Don’t forget that God loves children, and we’ve even been taxed to be as innocent as they are.
