Many people are of this school of thoughts that prayers don’t work on behalf of others. But in the bible, we find many stories of individuals fervently praying for their loved ones, and one such powerful narrative is that of Jairus, a synagogue leader, who sought Jesus’ help for his dying daughter. This story is found in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 5, verses 21-43.
Let’s go through this bible passage and see what message it holds for us today.
Jairus, a prominent synagogue leader, fell at the feet of Jesus, desperately pleading for his daughter’s life. His heart was heavy with anguish as he implored Jesus to come and lay His healing hands upon his beloved child.
In Mark 5:23, we read Jairus’ heartfelt plea:
“My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.”
Can you feel the weight of Jairus’ words? The desperation of a father who would move heaven and earth for the sake of his child. Jairus knew that Jesus held the power to heal, and in his desperation, he turned to the one true source of hope.
What was the Outcome of the Prayer for his daughter?
Jesus listened and was about to answer his prayers.
As Jesus made His way to Jairus’ home, a crowd pressed in around Him, eager to witness His miracles. But in the midst of the throng, a woman who had suffered for twelve long years with a bleeding disorder reached out in faith, believing that if she could just touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, she would be healed.
And indeed, she was healed in that very moment, prompting Jesus to stop and acknowledge her faith. But even as He ministered to this woman, messengers arrived with devastating news for Jairus: his daughter had died.
Imagine the despair that must have gripped Jairus’ heart upon hearing those words. Yet, in the face of this seemingly insurmountable obstacle, Jesus spoke words of reassurance and comfort to Jairus: “Don’t be afraid; just believe” (Mark 5:36).
Oh, how powerful those words are for us today! In the face of adversity, in the midst of our deepest trials, Jesus calls us to believe—to trust in Him with unwavering faith.
Jairus, with trembling hope and steadfast faith, continued to follow Jesus to his home. And there, in the presence of mourning and disbelief, Jesus performed a miracle beyond comprehension. He took the hand of Jairus’ lifeless daughter and spoke the words that would change everything:
“Talitha koum!”—which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” (Mark 5:41).
And immediately, the girl arose, restored to life by the power of Jesus Christ.
Prayer for Pregnant Daughter

Father, I come to you regarding the person who is reading this, and I am praying for them because I know that they are greatly distressed about pregnancy. We ask for Your divine protection to surround them, shielding both mother and child from harm. Guard them against any complications or dangers that may arise during this sacred time.
Heavenly Father, we pray for wisdom and discernment for those who are expecting, that they may make choices that are in alignment with Your will and that promote the health and well-being of both mother and child. Guide them in their decisions regarding nutrition, exercise, and medical care, that they may experience a pregnancy that is safe and healthy.
Lord, we also pray for emotional and spiritual strength for expectant parents. May they find comfort and peace in Your presence, trusting in Your unfailing love and provision. Grant them courage and faith to navigate the joys and challenges of pregnancy with grace and resilience.
Protect, O Lord, the precious life forming within the womb. Guard it from any harm or danger, and nurture it with Your tender care. Surround the unborn child with Your love and protection, shaping them according to Your divine purpose.
Lord, we acknowledge that every child is a precious gift from You, fearfully and wonderfully made. May we cherish and honor the gift of life in all its forms, recognizing the sanctity of every human soul.
