Prayer for God to Remove Someone Toxic from Your Life

What God cannot do does not exist, even if it means removing someone who is toxic from your life. Let’s go to 2 Samuel 15-18. Here, you’ll see the story of David and Absalom, for instance. Absalom, David’s own son, rebelled against his father trying to destroy him. David, being a man after God’s own heart, prayed to God, saying, ‘Arise, Lord, and let your enemies be scattered!’ (Numbers 10:35). God didn’t remove Absalom from David’s life immediately, but He did work out a plan in His own time. Absalom’s rebellion led to his own downfall but David forgave him and showed mercy.

Sometimes, even though God will take away toxic people, He uses difficult relationships to teach us to love and forgive. But in the end, you’ll be free from the toxicity of the person.

Prayer for God to Remove Someone from Your Life

The power of God removing toxic person in your life

We have 10 powerful prayer points that we are going to lift onto God, and remind Him of His biblical instances. Let’s pray.

1. Asking for help to Cut ties with someone

Dear God,

Jacob came to you when he fled from Laban as we see in Genesis 31. Please, I need your help to cut ties with this person completely, without hesitation or looking back. Your Word says, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14).

Right now, I need the courage to shut the door firmly, lock it with bolts and chains if need be, and move forward with my life. Help me to resist the temptation to revisit the past or keep the door open for further hurt. I trust in your promise to be with me for my good. At the same time, I pray for wisdom to identify and get rid of any toxic influences in my life.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

2. Heavenly help to Delete someone everywhere from my life

Our Father,

I have this person whose relationship with me has been nothing short of toxic and unfriendly. Father, delete this person from my life. I have seen in Romans 12:2, “Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” As such, I want to be able to transform my online presence and social connections to reflect my new life without this person in it.

Please help Lord. Help me to delete him/her from all my social media platforms, phone contacts, etc., without looking back. I want to avoid the temptation to check up on them or see their latest updates. Joseph was able to avoid Potiphar’s wife’s advances as told in Genesis 39:7-12. I need this type of strength. Even Paul instructed the Philippians to “forget what is behind and strain towards what is ahead.” (Philippians 3:13)

I pray for the courage to move forward and leave my past behind. In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Amen.

3. Help me, oh Lord, to Stop hanging out in places this person used to

Dear God,

I want m to avoid places that remind me of the person who hurt me. Didn’t your Word say, “Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart”? (2 Timothy 2:22).

I want to flee from the temptations of revisiting the past and pursue a new life without them.

Please help me to be mindful of the places they used to frequent and avoid them. Even David avoided Saul’s presence when he was trying to hurt him in 1 Samuel 23:13-14. Help me to find new routes, new places, and new connections that bring me joy.

I pray, in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

4. A Prayer to dismiss any reminders about them

Oh Lord,

This is what I read in Ephesians 4:31:

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.

Father, I want to get rid of all the physical reminders that bring back bitter memories.  I need your help to collect all the gifts, items, and mementos that remind me of them, and dispose of them. If they hold sentimental value, help me to return them respectfully. If not, give me the courage to let them go.

Paul taught the Corinthians to “purge out the old leaven” (1 Corinthians 5:7), so I pray for wisdom while getting rid of any toxic influences in my life.

Thank you for your love and care for me.

Amen.

5. Give me an emergency contact, oh Lord

Heavenly Father,

You know I am currently trying my best to do without a friend who has been toxic to me. As I try to delete them from my life, help me find an emergency contact who can help me in this time of my weakness.

Galatians 6:2 says “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” I want to surround myself with people who can help me carry the burden of struggle. Help me to identify a close friend to make my emergency contact, someone who will lift me up and help me get to a better place. I remember that Jonathan was a source of strength and encouragement for David, thus I pray for a friend who will be my source of strength.

I know you love me, and will help me remove a toxic person from my life in your own way and time.

Amen.

6. Heavens! Help me Focus on myself henceforth

My Father in Heaven,

I want to take time and focus on myself. I want to be able to improve the quality of my life. I want to learn to love and care for myself, so I can strengthen my self-connection. Help me with my personal development, self-care, and to find my passions. Give me the courage to take myself out on dates, spend quality time with myself, and build a proper self-relationship. I am praying for the wisdom to manage my well-being while getting rid of toxic people in my life.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

7. Guide me, oh Lord, to Get away for a bit

Oh Father,

Show me how to get away for a bit and disconnect from the toxic people in my life. In Matthew 11:28, it says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Now is the time this heavenly rest of yours will mean the whole world to me. I need you for rejuvenation. I want to be in your presence. I want to be able to get away, whether locally or further out, and courageous enough to take the first step.

If I’m feeling vulnerable and scared, please provide a good, close friend to accompany me and support me. Elijah was fed and strengthened by an angel in the wilderness (1 Kings 19:5-8), therefore, I pray for strength from You, Father.

In Jesus’ mighty name.

Amen.

8. Prayer to replace someone with better people

Dear God,

I know that I want someone out of my life, but at the same time, I need someone else to feel this void. I will need your wisdom for this replacement. Dear God, link me up with people who can enhance the value of my life. I need people who will bring positivity and not be misled. “Bad company corrupts good character” (1 Corinthians 15:33), which is why I want to surround myself with people who won’t tear me down.

Please, the people I allow into my life should not compromise exceptions. Give me the courage to be picky and take the time to find the right people who deserve me. I need honest people who will put in mutual effort because Ruth found a new family and community among the Israelites.

May You answer my humble prayer. In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Amen.

9. Please fill my busy life with productiveness

Dear God,

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity” (Ephesians 5:15-16)

Help me to make the most of every opportunity. Help me to fill my schedule with things that bring me fulfillment. Please, help me create a proper schedule for my hobbies, career, self-care, and old and new relationships as I remove a toxic friend or family member.

Now, I need your energy of motivation, your wisdom to invest in people who matter, ability to seize opportunities, and go on successful adventures. Thank you for the love you have for me, and may You answer my prayer.

Amen.

10. A Prayer to Forgive but not necessarily forget

Dear God,

I have a heart that has been hurt by someone I once trusted. I know that forgiveness is not about forgetting what happened or approving of their behavior, but about releasing the hold they have on me.

In Matthew 6:12, Jesus taught us to “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” This is why I choose to forgive this person and release them to your presence.

Help me to let go of the anger, resentment, and bitterness that I’ve been carrying. Joseph forgave his brothers despite their betrayal.

I don’t need to forget the lessons I’ve learned or the pain I’ve experienced, but I do need to release the negative emotions. Please, help me to move forward with my life.

Thank you for your grace that empower me to forgive and start afresh. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

While God does His own part in your life, you also have to do the best you can. Don’t contact them no matter what. Block them, and that’s it—very simple.

Father, we thank you for your guidance in helping our brethren remove a toxic person from their life. We understand now that we don’t need anyone who is bad for us, no matter how much we think we do. You have shown us that we deserve to be treated with respect, and that anyone who can’t provide that doesn’t deserve a place in our life. Please, fill in any relationship voids in our lives. Amen and Amen.
