It’s perfect to come to God in prayer if you have lost money. It doesn’t matter if you misplaced it or forgot where you stored it anywhere. God knows you need it as part of your survival, and is willing to help. Open the Bible to the book of 2 Kings 4:1-7. Here, you’ll see the story of a widow who was struggling to make ends meet. Her husband had passed away, leaving her with a large debt and two young sons. The creditors threatened to take her sons as slaves if she couldn’t pay off the debt. Desperate and with no clear solution, she turned to the prophet Elisha for help.

Elisha instructed her to gather all the jars she could find and fill them with oil from her small jar at home. Miraculously, the oil continued to flow, filling every jar she had gathered. She sold the oil, paid off her debt, and provided for her sons. Indeed, we can draw inspiration from this widow’s faith in God’s abundance, and pray to find a lost money. Don’t also forget that God can multiply your other sources of income in unexpected ways to make up for your lost funds. But for now, we’ll pray for you to find it.

Prayer to Find Lost Money

It’s always good to pray with the Bible, but not necessary if you can’t memorize the events. Let’s pray.

1. Prayer for a CALM HEAD and to Carefully tell the missing amount of money

Dear God,

It’s my moment of distress, and I need your calmness. I have recently lost a sum of money, and I need your peace to think clearly and recall all the details. Please give me a calm head so I can focus, and carefully estimate the amount that has gone missing. Help me to remember the denomination of the bills and the exact amount, so that I may ask for help and search with wisdom.

In Philippians 4:6-7, it says:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

At this moment, I am claiming this calmness. I need to be able to think clearly and find my lost money.

Amen.

2. Oh God, help me remember where I last had My Money

Dear God,

I am worried that my money has gone missing, and I need your help to remember where I last had it. Please search my heart, and bring back to my remembrance. Help me find it to the place when I last had the money. Did I have it at home, or did I take it with me to the store? Did I spend any of it, and if so, did I put the change back in my wallet or pocket? “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24).

I pray that you search my heart. I pray that you lead me to the place where my money is.

3. Heavens, clear my head while I Make a Plan

Dear Heavenly Father,

I come before you asking for a clear head and help me think well. I need to remember the places I have been and the things I have done since I last had the money.

Father, I am asking for your strength as well as guidance. Lord, with you, I believe that I can make a good plan, just enough to lead me there if it be your will.

Help me to think of all the places I have been, and all the things I have done, since I last had the money. Help me to remember the people I have been with, and the things I have purchased.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

4. Prayer for guidance while searching my home, Office, and Car

Dear God,

I am searching my home, office, and car for the cash that I have lost. Without your guidance and direction, I will not find it. Please help me to think of all the places where I might have left it. Also, I’ll need you to give me the patience and persistence to search thoroughly.

It is said in Psalm 119:105, “Your word is … a light on my path.” I believe you will light up the path leading to what I want as I search. Help me remember to check all the usual and unusual places, including the pockets of my clothes, between the couch cushions, and on the floor. Help me to think of all the places where I might have stashed my money in my car, including the glove compartment, overhead visors, and other hidden spots.

Father, I need this wisdom to know where to look. I need this heavenly patience to keep searching until I find it.

I pray in Jesus’ name.

5. Prayer to retrace my steps back to my Funds

Our Father,

I have tried to retraced my steps, following the same route that I took before but it seems I’m missing something each time. Now, I come before you asking for you to guide me to the place where my money lies. I have read in Deuteronomy 30:3-4 that “then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you, and he will gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you.” This is why I believe you will gather my lost money and bring it back to me, Lord.

As I walk, I pray that you help me to scan the ground carefully. I want to spot my money if it has fallen out of my pocket. Give me patience, please. I also need persistence to search thoroughly. May Your wisdom advise me to know where to look.

Amen.

6. Help Me, Oh Lord, to ask the right person if they found it

Dear God,

If I have lost my money in a store or place of business, please give me the courage to ask the right person if anyone has found it. Didn’t You promise in the Bible in Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you”? I have read it clearly, and ask, oh God, that you guide me as I ask to find what belongs to me.

I want to be able to clearly describe the amount and denomination of the money. Remind me to leave my contact information with the manager, that if someone finds it, they may return it to me. Give me the faith to trust that you will guide me to the right person, and that my money will be returned to me.

7. Oh Lord, Touch the Bank to consider a refund to my account balance

Heavenly Father,

Right now, I have a humble heart for you. I really need your intervention in my current situation. I have recently lost money due to fraud, and I am struggling to recover from this financial setback. I have made a formal complaint to my bank, but I ask that you touch their hearts to consider a refund to my account balance.

Prophet Elijah prayed for the widow’s oil to be replenished, and it was. I now ask that you multiply my resources and restore what has been lost. May my bank see the evidence of my case and recognize their duty to protect my money. May they do everything in their power to get back the funds I’ve lost.

Thank you, Lord, for your faithfulness, and I trust in your grace.

Amen.

8. May the police have information about my money

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.” Isaiah 55:8

Dear God,

I know that You have Your ways. But right now, I am worried sick and stressed about the large amount of money that I have lost. I have searched everywhere, but it seems to have vanished. Now, I am turning to you, dear Lord, for help. I have reported to my local police, and now I hope they have information about my money. Please, walk them through on how to recover it.

I am only human, and praying for You to reveal any information or clues that will lead to my lost funds. I pray that the police be diligent in their search and be led your wisdom.

Thank you, Lord, for your care and concern. I trust in Your ways.

Amen.

9. Help me find it while searching my state insurance department’s database

Heavenly Father,

In Jeremiah 29:13, it says< “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Now, I seek you, and ask that you help me as I search the state insurance department’s database.

Help my search to be fruitful. May I be diligent in my efforts. Remember that the widow in 2 Kings 4:1-7 was helped by Elisha to find the oil that she needed. This is why I am asking you to provide for me in a similar way. Make my search lead me to the money that I have lost, and I shall be grateful for your provision.

10. May NAUPA know the whereabouts of my lost money

Dear God,

Right now, I have turned to NAUPA (National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators) to see if they have any knowledge of the whereabouts of my lost funds. I pray that you reveal to me any information that NAUPA may have about my lost money.

May their database be a tool for me to find what I am looking for, and may I be grateful for your guidance.

The Israelites were led out of the wilderness and into the Promised Land, therefore, I ask you, Father, to lead me out of this difficult situation. Please,  place me in financial stability, even if it be your will that I can’t get it back.

11. Dear God, embody yourself in a professional asset detective for me

Dear Adonai,

If my searches don’t turn up anything, please embody yourself in a professional asset detective who can help me locate the funds.

You said in Psalm 32:8, and I quote, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

Now, my prayer is for you to guide this professional in their search. They will need your wisdom while trying to come up with a plan of where to start and where to look.

Let their expertise be a tool for me to find what I am looking for. I shall be grateful to you, Oh Lord, for your care. The Good Shepherd leaves the ninety-nine to find the one lost sheep, so I ask that you leave no stone unturned in helping me find my missing money.

As we have offered this prayer, may God hear us and answer your cry. He knows just how much this will mean to you, and will grant the request.

Dear God, please answer the prayer of this brethren, that he or she may be glad in You. If it be your will that they won’t find their money, please make it up to them with much better resources that their heart may quickly forget about what they have lost. Amen!
